This morning I picked up my Mum and Dad from the airport, they were chatting away about their holiday overseas.
My dad paused and then said, “You know what Akhil? The locals were so friendly! I would get up to go on a morning walk at 6am on the beach; they would all stop to say good morning to me or simply welcome me.”
It got me thinking, we’re so busy in our day-to-day lives, we live in our own little bubbles, and we barely get the time to simply check in.
Can you remember the last time you asked someone genuinely “how are you?”
I don’t mean asking it as if it was a chore, but genuinely listening to the person.
This is why days like “Time to Talk” are important, I’m so proud Thames Water celebrates and embraces positive mental health.
It’s a gentle reminder for all of us who are so disconnected with each other, to reconnect, slow down and check in with one another.
Why not go out for a cup of coffee or a cheeky pint?
Or a glass of world class tap water!
My challenge to all of you is to take 10 minutes out of your busy day, to just ask someone you don’t normally talk to how they are.
It may seem like a simple question, but it can mean the world to someone.
